Íøºì±¬ÁÏ faculty discusses Cesar Chavez news

Íøºì±¬ÁÏ Associate Professor of Latina/o Studies and Critical Race and Political Economy David Hernández spoke to KNX News about the recent investigation into the accusations of sexual assault against labor leader Cesar Chavez.

According to an, Cesar Chavez, the iconic labor leader, is accused of sexually assaulting two underage girls in the 1970s, as well as assaulting National Farm Workers Association co-founder in the 1960s.

"To be honest, I’m kind of reeling from it," Hernández said. "I’ve known of critiques of Cesar Chavez for his autocratic leadership and his paranoia at the end of his career, but I’d never heard anything of sexual abuse." 

He continued, "Everyone is saying how ugly it is. As a teacher, I just taught the [United Farm Workers] last week. I wrote to my students, who are all on spring break, [and I] shared the article and a few thoughts, so we’ll be discussing it next week as well."
