Lachanda Garrison (MATM ’19) was selected to serve on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Program Committee for the regional conference in Boston for fall, 2019.
I learned how to engage with Spanish speakers on a cultural, intellectual and professional level, and became a true world citizen.
Problem solving, logical and deductive reasoning, a strong memory, patience, to name a few, are some of the skills translating Greek and Latin have given me.
I learned that it’s OK not to know everything, and that I really like research. Being curious will get you far.
It all began with a study abroad experience in New Zealand and then I returned to that country for an internship studying addiction science.
The best way for me to learn is by working with and learning from Spanish speaking students and educators in their own voices.
I have always loved the sky and I am curious about how things work in space and determining solutions for things we do not yet know or understand in our universe.
When I decided to pursue a Spanish minor - and then major - I had no idea it would change my professional and personal goals.
